'Finding the lens' workshop will be a relaxed and vibrant guide through the on-floor process of acting to camera. It’s for anybody interested in performance and directing. Throughout the filming of a short scene, you’ll be taken through the actor/director process and discover how small changes can create authentic, impactful and sometimes comic performances. As well as performance techniques, we will look at the technical aspects of the scene.

Working in pairs, you will be working from a short 1 page script which you’ll be given on arrival. You don't need to bring anything to the workshop other than yourselves.

Paul Murphy is an award winning TV Director with a vast experience spanning drama, childrens and comedy.

His portfolio encompasses classic and enduring shows as Doctor Who, Casualty and Brookside and, more recently, Cuckoo, Trollied and Home From Home. US shows include Downward Dog, Imaginary Mary and he’s about to shoot 2 episodes of American Housewives.

Before directing, Paul was a lecturer in Performance at Salford University for 5 years and tutored students in performance for screen and stage including Peter Kay, Jim Sturgess and Murray Lachlan Young. Having been an actor himself, Paul’s directing approach is particularly empathetic, helping the actor access the truth and humour in a given situation and their role in it.
