On Thursday 11th June at 7pm to 8pm we will live stream a conversation featuring all four of the Sound Artists and Composers who have created new music commissions for Speaking Tube. You will be able to view the video on this page, when it is live.
Spatialised versions of these works have been recently shared online. Listen to them all here.
Speaking Tubes is a sculptural sound installation made of gleaming galvinised steel and air-ducting tubes, designed to create a vortex of travelling sound. Until we are able to re-open Speaking Tubes at Dean Clough, we’ve used spatialisation technology to produce audio versions of each work that recreates the feeling of being immersed in sound as each musician intended. You can listen at home and feel as if you are standing in the centre of a virtual sculpture of speakers to experience the music in a similar way to how it works within the Speaking Tubes physical installation. The four artists will be in conversation with IOU"s Artistic Director David Wheeler who created and devised Speaking Tubes. Speakers include:
Yannis is an acclaimed composer who has won several notable awards for his work including The International Music Council's International Rostrum of Composers prize in 2014 and the Willem Pijper Prize in 2011. His work 'Shooting at Clouds' was developed as the first work for Speaking Tubes when it first launched in 2012.
