Over the next six weeks IOU will introduce three new commissions by emerging and established musicians and sound artists. These works were originally developed for Speaking Tubes, a sculptural sound installation made of gleaming galvinised steel and air-ducting tubes, designed to create a vortex of travelling sound.
Until we are able to re-open Speaking Tubes at Dean Clough, we’ve used spatialisation technology to produce audio versions of each work that recreates the feeling of being immersed in sound as each musician intended. You can listen at home and feel as if you are standing in the centre of a virtual sculpture of speakers to experience the music in a similar way to how it works within the Speaking Tubes physical installation.
Starting on Thursday 7 May, IOU will introduce a new work from emerging and established musicians every fortnight.
The original work commissioned for Speaking Tubes when it first launched in 2012, was 'Shooting at Clouds' created by internationally acclaimed composer Yannis Kyriakides.
