Speaking Tubes: New Commissions POSTPONED

This event is POSTPONED until further notice following the government announcements on 16th March.

IOU relaunch Speaking Tubes, in the Walkway Gallery at its Creation Centre at Dean Clough. The relaunch will include new original works by local sound artists and musicians. First presented at Junction Goole in September 2012, Speaking Tubes is a sculptural sound installation inspired by the extraordinary sound of vortex rings travelling through the atmosphere at supersonic speed.

Speaking Tubes is a gleaming steel sculpture made of large air-ducting tubes and giant cones that emit a chorus of soundscapes into special listening zones. It is a unique way to experience new musical works as the sound travels in different ways as you navigate the space.

The original concept was devised and designed by David Wheeler and developed with award-winning composer Yannis Kyriakides. As part of the relaunch Speaking Tubes will play new work by Katie English and Loui Binns who are both Halifax based artists, with further commissions to be announced.
