Volatile Light is a mesmerising sound and light installation, originally commissioned by Junction Goole.

Featuring an array of specially made machines, LED lights will be attached to rotating arms, levers and cranks to weave a series of eccentric curves, sweeping arcs and hectic scribbles in the darkened gallery space. Utilising an innovative combination of computer software, the lights will then be transformed into a complex mixture of overlapping light trails and patterns. Audiences will experience an intimate, all enveloping combination of light and sound by placing themselves at the centre of a miniature, wrap around universe of moving lights and sounds.

Workshops will take place at the Harris exploring how to create virtual world sculpture and real world mechanical light sculptures.  For more information about dates, times and prices call the Harris Museum and Art Gallery.

Volatile Light was originally commissioned by Junction, Goole in 2011.  It was created by IOU in collaboration with artists Liz Dees, Dan Morrison,  Andy Plant and Jim Bond. It has since toured nationally and this presentation at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery is supported by Arts Council  England’s Strategic Touring fund.
